Atom Bomb in Japan

I was between four and six years old. We lived in Tokyo, Japan from 1950 to 1953 on an Army post. We faced a quadrangle that had a common area where we played as kids.

Unfortunately, life on the post is all I really remember about Japan.

One day, while playing in this quadrangle with my friends, we ran around throwing stones up in the air yelling,

“Atom Bomb”.

One of those stones fell on my forehead opening a cut that has left a scar there to this day.

It serves me right. Every house had Japanese servants working for the families that lived there. I cannot imagine doing anything more inappropriate considering where I was and how soon it was after the end of World War II.

I am also one of very few Americans that can claim an atom bomb injury in Japan.
