I was born not long after midnight in Madison General Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. My father was interning there as an Army doctor. My parents rented a small house on the University of Wisconsin campus that now houses a conference center where their rental once stood.

My stay would not be long in Madison as my dad was soon transferred to San Antonio, Texas before I was a year old.
