Car Smoking

Bad Idea.

I know that my brother Tony was especially angry about this. He confronted my parents many times to no avail. (I think this explains his liberal tendencies.)

When I became a father, I was determined that my children never see me smoking. I wanted them to be non-smokers. I was still a nicotine addict, so I restricted my smoking to the car. (You imagine what it must have smelled like in there.)

One day, after about ten years of supposedly hiding my smoking from my kids, I open the fruit drawer on the bottom of the garage refrigerator to discover at least thirty opened packs of cigarettes. My first thought was how did this happen without me missing that many packs. My second thought was how much money I was going to save over the next couple of months.

Upon further reflection, though, I realized that I had been “found out”. My young son had been going into my car and taking out any packs of cigarettes he could find. When I told Janet what happened, she informed me that he was doing this because he knew that smoking was not good for me.

I quit soon after.
