Grandmother Died

Floss Thompson

1894 – 1977 – 83 years old

My maternal grandparents used to visit us every summer during my childhood years. My mother’ birth father died of a heart attack when my mother was young. My grandmother remarried Hilmer Thompson not long after. He is the grandfather I remember. My memories of her are that she loved spending time with her daughter and grandchildren and would visit as often as she could. When we would visit them in Chappell, Nebraska, I remember how close their house was to my grandfather’s drug store. We would walk there from their house and he would give us penny candy when the store was not busy.

Before my father built a summer cottage, my grandfather would take me fishing on a small river in Green Bay near our house almost every day. We would catch small catfish and throw them back. We also caught bluegills and perch on small lakes in northern Wisconsin on day trips with the family. When he died, he left me his fishing pole.

He was the kind of grandfather every kid should have.

I have been unable to find any records of him online with specific dates.
