Today We Lost a Very Good Friend

Janet and I were shocked today by the news that we lost our friend Sam Villarealle suddenly to a heart attack. We gathered with mutual good friends to be with Marie and to share our overwhelming grief.

Janet and I had been going out to dinner with Sam and Marie probably once a month or so to share good times and many laughs, since they had moved to Las Vegas in the early 1990s from Janet’s hometown Rochester, NY. We knew them well before that, as they often visited before moving here.

We were on opposite sides of the political aisle, but we were able to have long, robust conversations and plenty of good-natured jabs at each other without ever getting angry. It never affected our friendship. If only today’s world allowed for that kind the thing, it would be a much better and much happier place.

Sam’s outgoing nature, his smile and his sense of humor will be dearly missed and will remain in our hearts and our memories for as long as we live.
